Just noticed that I never made a topic here in the forums about the Thursday night Pathfinder Society games.
My name is James Hecker. I am currently running a tri-weekly Pathfinder Society group with Gaming Grounds. You maybe asking yourself a few questions about this series of events. Please feel free to post those in the comments below and I will answer them as best I can. But, till I have some of those questions or comments I will post some of the most common questions I am asked about PFS (Pathfinder Society).
What is Pathfinder Society and how is it different from a regular Pathfinder game?
A: Pathfinder Society is just like a regular game as far as rules go. Differences are Society only allows you to create characters based from the Corebook, Players Guide, Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic books. Another major restriction is no evil aligned characters. This is simply because in society play you are to be working as a team to complete a joined goal and is not about each person for himself.
B: Society play is a regulated system. Meaning your games are recorded, tracked and are signed off by your GM. You can purchase items in game like normal but, they are recorded and signed off on by your GM as well. To progress in the game you gain a level every three games and powerful items are purchased from your adventure sheets (which are given to you at the end of each game and signed off on by your GM as well).
What is the advantage to playing in Pathfinder Society?
A: The fact that it is a regulated system. Meaning no one is able to cheat. No crazy half elf / Bugbear hybrids, made up or third party classes. Everyone is at the same advantages and disadvantages.
B: Life is crazy and sometimes it's just not ideal for someone to join a regular weekly group where if you miss one session you are either behind or possibly killed off. Because, society play is regulated you can play as often or as little as you want and with what ever GM, where ever you want. Example is how I am hosting these games for both my gaming group and Gaming Grounds. I earn XP for just playing / GMing, it doesn't matter what group I am with. Another example I like to use is that you can play in one group here at Gaming Grounds, then later play at Con in California and your character is still 100% legal and transferable.
Why am I only running this once every three weeks?
A: This is where you come in. Because, I live about a hour away from Gaming Grounds it is hard for me to travel there if the event isn't going to run or be worth the drive. For now I am running this as a tri-weekly event to give each event enough time to fill up and be worth the drive.
B: I will boost the frequency of games to bi-weekly once we have a solid group or two established. In others words once there is a demand for more Pathfinder Society Games.
So please, comment below if you are interested or if you have any comments / questions. I look forward to seeing more people and answer your concerns.
Hopefully your Future GM,
James Hecker
